Hiatus

August 11, 2008

You’ll probably notice things are quiet around here for the next month or so. I’m taking some time off to stay at home with Melanie and our new son, Griffin James. You can still reach me by email if you need to, but it may take me a while to get back to you. The online store is still funtional and orders will be shipped while I’m away.

I’ll pick back up sometime in September.

New Store

July 27, 2008

I’ve finally gotten things back online after all of the technical issues I’ve had over the past few weeks. The last stage of this change was finding a new online storefront. The old store was a gallery that used PayPal as a shopping cart. This slowed down the ordering process and was difficult to maintain. Even before the crash, I was looking for other options.

I’m happy to say that I’ve finally found a new storefront that I think offers more speed and flexibility than the previous version. The new store has brought with it some significant changes. The most noticeable change is that I won’t be fulfilling the orders directly anymore. The quality and materials will stay exactly the same, but you’ll receive your prints directly from the lab rather than me. A less noticeable, yet equally important, change is the way print pricing works in the new store. The prices you see when you add an image to your shopping cart are the base prices for standard prints. If you’d like to add custom finishes or change the type of paper used, you’ll do so directly from the shopping cart.

This gives you the freedom to choose options for each print (paper type, finishes, artboard mounting, etc.). Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about the new store.

You can access the store here.

Addie

July 20, 2008

Today I got to take pictures of Addie. I met Addie and her parents last year while taking pictures at a family reunion. She did really well - even in the brutal July heat - and had a lot of fun playing anywhere in the Arboretum with water. Thanks to Addie and her parents for having me out to take pictures.

Here are a few samples from today. I’ll post a link to the slideshow as soon as I have it ready.

Update: Slideshow here.

Kate and Alli

July 16, 2008

Last weekend I had the chance to take pictures of 1-year old twins, Kate and Alli. In the summer. In Texas. Needless to say I was a bit worried. They were troopers, and held out for over an hour before the heat finally got the better of them (they’re tougher than I am). Considering their age and the heat, I think they did great.

Here are a couple of sample images from the day. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Here’s a link to the slideshow.

When it Rains…

July 8, 2008

Let’s try this again. Last week, I started experiencing some issues with the new version of my site. These problems compounded, and in the middle of fixing those issues I managed to spread the issues to m online store and the software that runs my client slideshows. For those keeping score, I went from having three well-oiled and functioning sites (main, store, and galleries), to a seemingly insurmountable failure at every possible point.

What does all this mean? The most immediate difference is that the old slideshows, store, and any content I added to the previous short-lived version of the site no longer exist. I have all of the images, but none of them are online at this point.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is that I’ve been forced to take a hard look at how I run my various online efforts. The first change I made is a move to a platform called WordPress. The second is a move to an entirely new host. These two changes mean I’ll be able to publish more content and you’ll be able to get it much, much faster. That, and the fact that the whole thing won’t come crashing down once every month or so. Finally, I’ll be experimenting with a new online storefront to replace the old version.

Although the timing isn’t great, I’m actually excited to roll out all of these new changes. I’ll be updating things quite a bit over the next couple of months. Some changes will be noticeable, some won’t. Feel free to let me know what you like and don’t like as I update the site.

All of this is a long, long way for me to say I’m terribly sorry for all of the issues. I think I’m on the right path to getting everything back online in as good or better shape than it was.

Thanks for your patience!
